RALEIGH PARK GARDEN TOUR OPENS UP PORTLAND’S PRIVATE GARDENS IN SUPPORT OF YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS
12th Anniversary Tour Event June 1st 10am-3pm to Benefit Raleigh Park Elementary School Learning Garden and Raleigh Park Neighborhood
9Portland, OR ( March 21, 2019) – Eight of Portland’s beloved private gardens will open up for public touring June 1st, 10am to 3pm, when The Fir Grove Garden Club hosts it’s 12th anniversary of its iconic Raleigh Park Garden Tour event and community fundraiser. All proceeds from the Tour will benefit Raleigh Park Elementary School’s learning garden and Raleigh Park Neighborhood’s mission to promote education, beautification and community. Presale tickets are available now in limited quantities at $20 per person and $25 day of event.
TOUR BENEFITS RALEIGH PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LEARNING GARDEN AND NEIGHBORHOOD
“The Raleigh Park Garden’s Tour’s purpose is to help children develop a love of nature and an understanding of the connection between gardens and the food they eat,” said Mary Sherman, Garden Tour volunteer. “Proceeds from this year’s event will support Raleigh Park Elementary School’s Learning Garden program as it provides children an opportunity to grow and nurture their own green space.”
EVENT KICKS OFF AT RALEIGH PARK ELEMENTARY JUNE 1ST 10AM-3PM
This year’s self-guided tour will kick-off Saturday, June 1, 2019, 10am – 3pm at Raleigh Park Elementary School, 3670 SW 78th Avenue in Portland, and will serve as tour packet pick-up location for participants. Guests can join the tour anytime throughout the event, volunteers will be on hand at the school to provide packets, answer questions and sell tickets.
CAR OR FOOT
The gardens are all in one neighborhood, making this event uniquely walkable, as well as car and bike-friendly. Either way, bring comfortable footwear so you can enjoy leisurely strolling through the Tour gardens.
TOUR EIGHT PRIVATE GARDENS AND RALEIGH PARK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL GARDEN
Guests will have the opportunity to explore eight of Portland’s private gardens, including a first-hand look at Raleigh Park Elementary School’s Learning Garden. The personalized, self-guided tour will showcase both professionally-designed gardens and green spaces created by homeowners’ personal vision.
EXPERTS, ARTISTS, AUTHORS AND MORE
Participants will be treated to a number of surprises during the tour, ranging from book author discussions, art exhibits, area celebrities and impromptu discussions with knowledgeable gardeners. Guests will have the opportunity to hear first-hand the unique local history of the Raleigh Park Garden Tour neighborhood as its evolved through the past 125 years. Vern Nelson, author, Oregonian columnist, Pacific Northwest garden and edible landscape expert, “Hungry Gardener” blogger and community advocate will be on hand to share garden tips, local lore and more.
UNIQUE GARDEN GIFTS, PLANTS FOR SALE, MASTER GARDENERS AVAILABLE TO CHAT
Garden gifts and plants will be available for sale, refreshments will be available, and Master Gardeners will be on site to answer horticultural questions.
